On the morning of January 2, 2012 I woke up to an entire Facebook photos and statuses about the nye party, dinners and new year resolutions. Some were excited about it yet some were, as usual, treating it like any other ordinary Sunday – In fact, I went Ikea 2 days in a row to make it SPECIAL. Hahaha!
It wasn’t that funny. I was furniture shopping for my office and the second visit to Ikea was merely because it’s the closest place without a jam. Even though it was a long weekend, I didn’t plan any getaways because I was literally tired from my vacation marathon since September (Kuching, Hanoi, Shanghai) – and there was another impromptu Bangkok trip coming up right after the new year’s day
I was walking around at eCurve, watched a pretty lame movie about some invisible aliens killing humans, had dinner at my regular dai chao restaurant and slept on a stranger’s couch while my bf plays mahjong.
So lazy. I wondered if it was a bad sign cause you know, we have this Chinese saying: 一日之计在于晨,一年之计在于春 – I started the year missing my breakfast so maybe I will not get breakfasts this year. Hahaha! (OR on the bright side: I had fish head noodle as brunch so I will be getting lots of fish head noodles on every brunch this year
)
Anyway, I didn’t really felt that it was lazy. I was really living my 2011 to the fullest! I was VERY tired. Really. Tired from going vacations. Hahaha! So, I wondered how well others did last year. Read about what people accomplished and I did scroll through lots of wedding photos – very prominent events in my 2011. Then, I looked at others post about their resolutions and I also read about how some people think it’s SO LAME to “set resolutions”. Hahaha…
I sort of agreed to both, and almost agreed more to the latter – ALMOST! until I went through last year’s blog archive and saw my new year’s post and it did freak me out, a little.
- Get a bolster.
- I wonder why I despised clubbing all these while cause I think I enjoyed it last night =.=
- Looks rather cool to tattoo my name at the back of my neck.
- Survive my impromptu 10-day Japan trip.
- Swim twice a week (if the freaking pool is not green in color!)
- I need a full medical checkup.
- Watch all good/award-winning movies and TV series that I’ve missed for the past 4 years.
- Less FB, MSN and talking to myself in my head that frequently.
- Maybe I should work in a park other than beside my bed/office for a change.
- Play the piano again.
- Read more books, please.
- I miss making greeting cards.
- Feels like getting a new camera.
- Have someone to kiss on next new year’s celebration.
I wrote a list and I forgotten about it =.= and reading it today, it amazed me how much they came true:
- Checked. It came with No. 14.
- Checked. Not sure whether Xmas eve’s countdown was clubbing but I my bar-visiting rate was 200% more than 2010′s.
- Forbidden – because of No. 14, too.
- Checked. I had no idea how much I spent in Japan but I went to Singapore, Redang, Kuching, Hanoi and Shanghai afterwards. So, I guess I survived :p
- Fail. Only once (for entire 2011) in my apartment’s pool. Redang not counted.
- Fail. FAIL and got sick more frequently last year
- Checked. I actually did my very best to try this. Managed to watch Fringe, Leverage, Big Bang Theory, Nip Tuck and many many many DVDs
- Checked. Partially due to a faulty iPhone, I went from a FB attention seeker to getting messages like “haven’t seen you on FB much lately, are you okay?”
- Checked. Tried working in Starbucks for 6 hours; I brought my mac to Kuching and Shanghai and I am always working at the Tropicana driving range (oh well, all No. 14′s fault, too)
- Fail. This is hard cause the piano is 70km away from me!
- Checked. OKAY, partially checked – I bought lots of books! Still reading the first book but I think this is positive PROGRESS! :p
- Checked. I made one. hahaha!
- Checked. It came with No. 14, hahaha!
- Checked. A miracle :p
So, it wasn’t that lame after all. Honestly, those were not really resolutions. They are too petty to be resolutions but a complete photo is built by millions of tiny pixels. You see, funny thing about resolutions: you don’t really need to do it the old way by sticking post-its all over your desk to remind you of what you should do. I believe more in channeling positive thinking into your daily lifestyle. When you tell yourself that you WANT to do this and that, and if you really mean it, somehow, your conscience will guide you there. You only need to express it out, ONCE. Trying too hard to achieve your list will instead give you loads of unnecessary pressure – it’s only a reference, not a schedule, therefore you definitely DO NOT NEED to complete it within a year.
Will I make another wish list this year? Well, I think I am a little overwhelmed by how much I’ve done in 2011 :p (I hope that I can kena lottery as accurate as above but I need to start buying them first =.= ) I think this year, what I am trying to achieve has more to do with money because I think I want to shop for something big.
I doubt that I can because I have second thoughts whenever I think of the number of places that I want to visit in my travel list! hahaha!
But I think I want to give it a try. I really do. So here goes my 2012 wish list (now I am calling it a wish list to make it like a Cinderella ending!)
- Expand The Adverts. Put more effort into Tell A Tale.
- Set up a travel blog as I am starting to forget where I’ve travelled :p
- Please exercise more. I think it’s time. I feel bad that I promised my friends to go badminton every Thursday but never (NEVER) shown up once during the entire 2011.
Get aplay the piano? I need a house first. I think this will be in the list for many other years. hahaha. =.=- Damn it, finish those books.
- Less traveling (So ironic when placed together with No. 2, hahah) so that I can get a new ride – actually I prefer it to be earn more rather than travel less. hahaha! oh well, TRY.
- Process photos IMMEDIATELY after trips – I need a new system. I feel sad for my Japan photos now.
- Eat more at home. Squeeze some time out for goodness sake.
- …
Okay, my head went blank for 30 seconds so I think I have nothing else to add for now. I am not going to write to “be happy always” cause that’s really (the true) lame – I’m like 90% happy always these days (stop pissing me off for the rest of the 10%, Tommy! :p)
All the best to ya all
